To the Gulf

Image
The name change is on the map but I still think it is the Gulf of Mexico.   We found a small RV park right on the bay.   Palm Harbor RV Resort .  Resort is a stretch but it does have the basics and it is right on the bay.  From our dining room we can see the water right thru two RV's.  The weather is not cooperating.  Wednesday when we arrived it was beautiful but within a couple hours the wind started.  The RV rocked all night.  Thursday it was so cold I stayed inside until Paul returned about 1 pm.  We went for a ride and found some soup!  The area is like every other beach town.  lots of pastel colored houses on stilts; lots of bars; and wind! Valentines Day we stayed home and cooked a very nice steak on the bbq.  The wind was not so brisk and the bbq worked.  Saturday was our best day here, no wind but fog and no sun!  It was warm though.  We took a drive to Mustang Island on the ferry Lots of ferry boa...

Made it to Houston!

Our final destination on this Winter 2025 trip, My sisters in Crosby, TX.  The weather is beautiful and I am finally in a summer dress and sandals.  Yeah.  Karol and I went to a Mexican Quinceanera for a coworkers daughter.  What a fancy birthday celebration.  We had dinner, dancing and an open bar.  The kids were having a blast.  The dj played all their music and lots of Mexican music too.  I even learned why the girls wear hi-tops!  Very practical as most of the dancing is jumping up and down.  I feel old.  We even got a good bag!  It had flip-flops with her name on them!  Great idea for those weary toes. Just like any 15th birthday, lots of girls, a few boys and led lights Saturday we enjoyed seeing the kids and then a Texas dinner.  Texas Roadhouse for Steak!  Always too much food but now I have prime rib for Monday too. We spent the day sitting on the deck and enjoying the birds.  And then the big game....

BBQ, BBQ

SaltLick BBQ  in Driftwood was recommended and we drove by on Saturday!  It's a huge place with a lot of patio dining.  You can bring your own ice chest full of beer to the dining room but not on the patio!  We don't need an ice chest full of beer to eat bbq.  This is usually the type of place we would pass as it looked like a tourist spot.  A guy where Paul worked on Monday said it was but we still went on Monday.  We arrived early and they have a wine tasting place.  No one was there, the wine was ok for Texas and Paul had a beer.  You can buy beer in the wine place, you can't buy any alcohol in the restaurant!  You can buy it there and take it with you to the restaurant.  Interesting alcohol rules in Texas.  I think Texas is where we have seen drive thru cocktails but you can't buy it in the restaurant, just at there wine garden!  It was all right there. We got drinks and sat down on the lovely patio.  Then w...

More exploring in Buda, Texas

Today I just wanted to relax and enjoy this amazing weather we are having.  It has been in the high 70's for several days now, amazing it is just the start of February.  We packed a light lunch and headed into Austin to find a picnic spot on Lady Bird Johnson Lake.  A very nice urban park will a trail on both sides of the river(they call it a lake).  We enjoyed our picnic and then took a walk of about 2 miles.  I think we saw one other couple that was our age; everyone looked like they were in college!  Young, buff, tanned and wearing jogging wear.  Oh well, we had a very nice walk.   Then we found McKinney Falls State Park , not the greatest park but not the worse.  We expected waterfalls but at this time of year they were a trickle. Teddy did not want to cross the water. A very small waterfall, this is the upper falls? Then Paul wants to stay off the interstate and so we enjoyed much of eastern Austin!  The landscape is not beaut...

Finally! Texas warmed up and we are here

We left Tucson on Monday and arrived in Texas on Thursday!  Texas is big, not sure I want to do this trip for awhile.  Once you leave Las Cruzes, New Mexico there is nothing until you get to Hill Country.  We did get off the interstate before Bourne and so we enjoyed all the little towns and wineries!  It is starting to look like Napa CA with all the fancy wineries.  I'm told they are not near as expensive! Paul worked Friday so Teddy and I enjoyed a quiet day relaxing in the campground of one of Pauls dealers!  FREE!  One of the perks he has!  It was cold overnight but the weather man promises warm. Warm,  he was right!  We slept with the windows open and only one blanket. We didn't even need the little heater!  Yeah!!!  Saturday and Sunday are our days of exploring.  We have been to this area many times so I took my sisters recommendation and went to a Silo Gallery glass blowing shop in San Marcos where you can wat...
